After hours of investigations, the problem is basic. There was not enough space on the disk to create the VM files.

So, the real bug is that the out-of-space issue is not handled correctly.

I’ve had almost the same error, the only difference was «Progress state: E_INVALIDARGS».

After some trial and error, it turns out it happens when I try to import machine with VMDK disk, with «Import hard drives as VDI» option selected.

I have VirtualBox 6.0.14 installed on macOS Catalina and I was trying to import a Windows 10 developer virtual machine that I had downloaded from Microsoft. The image was having a size of 17 GB approximately. During installation I receive following error:

After searching couple of hours from editing XML files to changing permission on various directories, I found the solution suggested by tsenay, and my problem was solved. I had only 16 GB available space on my macbook.

Just to add, in my case, I had over 800 GB free space but I was still getting the error:

I later figured out there was already a file of the same name in «$HOME/VirtualBox VMs» folder. This was caused due to a previous unsuccessful import (computer crashed for unrelated reason). I deleted that file and import was successful.

Therefore, it is my hunch that the error NS_ERROR_INVALID_ARG is thrown, at the very least, whenever it is not able to import OVA to disk.

Since it is more of a generic error due to improper error handling, it can also be thrown for other, as yet unknown reasons.

Had the same problem, only mine was a parent directory permission problem. For some reason, a parent directory 2 levels up needed to be opened up, once done, the import ran just fine.

USB is busy with a previous request [E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)]

Description

Hi, I still have problems with connecting my USB device on this Win7-64bit host to a WinXP SP3 guest in 4.1.8 with usb_extension 4.1.8 and guest additions 4.1.8.

USB-filters are set correctly, as already mentioned other usb mass storages are working. On my host this peak usb device is running with latest drivers and all seems to work.

I’ve been searching already for some hours in google and had a look at #3033 and #5343 and Forums but nothing solved it until now.

Is there a way to find a solution? I don’t want to reinstall earlier versions. Is there a problem to disconnect the device from host because it’s busy?

I am having the same problem, i.e. device busy. I am running VirtualBox 4.1.10 on Mac OS 10.7.3 with Windows XP SP1 as guest. I do not have any UpperFilters entry in the guest Registry. From the beginning (2.5 years ago) tested USB devices worked perfectly. Today only my mouse is recognized. Most important the printer cannot be recognized in any way I have tested. It stopped totally working with the upgrade to 4.1.10. An earlier degradation was that the native driver (HP 2025 PS) could not be used, but a generic HP ColorLaserJet PS driver could be used. If accessed from the Mac host OS, I cannot log on to the printer with any Mac user account. Is there anyway to log exactly what is going on?

I had a similar issue sometime back. What worked for me was to remove all text from the ‘Product’ field in the usb filter.

Hi everyone, I have had the same problem and I tried with two different USB 3.0 devices. The thing is, I think that was the problem, because when I changed to USB 2.0 it worked immediately (although you need to have the USB 2.0 support enabled before booting your VM).

So if nothing else works for your USB 3.0, try a USB 2.0 device instead! 🙂

PS. All my USB ports in my laptop are USB 3.0.

I had a similar issue sometime back. What worked for me was to remove all text from the ‘Product’ field in the usb filter.

I’ve been tearing my hair out for days trying to get this same PEAK USB device to work in VirtualBox, and this is the only thing that did it for me! Other solutions suggested removing text from all fields except ‘Name’, but that caused my USB mouse/keyboard to get captured from my host, which was not at all desirable. Your solution works perfectly for me!
