The Cheetahmen
The Cheetahmen, англ. люди-гепарды — отряд из трёх антропоморфных гепардов и видеоигры про них. Они появились на печально известном картридже-сборнике для NES/Dendy «Action 52» в 1991 году. «The Cheetahmen» были ключевой игрой картриджа, единственной более или менее отлаженной, с сюжетом и несколькими уровнями. К картриджу прилагался двенадцатистраничный комикс с предысторией персонажей. Active Enterprises планировали выпускать произведения и товары про Гепардов, следуя стопами «Черепашек-ниндзя».
Гепарды были отняты в младенчестве у матери доктором Морбисом, который разрабатывал сыворотку для превращения животных в гуманоидов. Они стали его первым экспериментом, первыми из «субвидов» — так он назвал новый тип мутантов.

Первая часть состоит из шести уровней, по два на каждого из Гепардов. Спрайты врагов, не считая боссов, взяты из других игр картриджа. Персонажи показаны в виде сбоку, могут прыгать и атаковать. Несмотря на хорошее качество по сравнению с другими играми картриджа, игра вошла в сборник незавершённой. Из-за неотлаженного поведения врагов пройти последние уровни почти невозможно.
Заставочный ролик показывает, как геймера затягивает в экран, и внутри он встречает самих Гепардов. В руководстве есть подсказка, что на самом деле он является главным персонажем игры, последовательно превращающимся во всех Гепардов по очереди.
Версия «Action 52» для Sega MegaDrive/Genesis содержит другую версию первой части. В ней обычные враги используют графику босcов из версии для NES, а графика боссов новая. По сюжету персонажи спасают котят гепардов от монстров.

On the Rhino boss we manage to do a quick kill that’s faster by half a cycle compared to the previous movie

The boss will spawn based on some RNG value, it’s by pure luck that we were able to get it to spawn right away.

There’s a possibility that we could get the quicker kill, which would save about a second, but there is the big issue with the final boss. Namely, it’s an RNG-based spawn, like normal things that make sense, and it’s a frame delay thing. We got literally the best possible result for that spawn, 0 delay needed and a beautiful pattern for the fight itself. The Glitch World Hell Place is. Really, really weird and inconsistent. Sometimes there are invisible platforms, sometimes there aren’t. You can’t stand on an invisible platform and fire, because you will immediately fall through, like normal things that make sense, so we do have to cut our firing barrages short so we can move back to where we think an invisible platform is and jump off of it. This is in fact a slower fight than the published run, but that’s because the published run actually has a stage with actual platforms and is able to just stay in the boss’s face and rapidfire it to death near instantly. It’s a price of a second or two for the huge 40-ish second improvement of skipping an entire stage.
Anyway, video games are art. One love, y’all.
Memory: Optimization was good.
Feedback was rather good. The glitches were fun and the pace wasn’t slow even if the game is a little simple. The current run on the site has fairly poor ratings and this run isn’t that much different from it minus the final boss warp. However, the feedback here is quite positive so this can go to moons for now.

This is one of the best styles of pixel art I’ve ever seen! The colors are so vibrant and appealing, they really look like game sprites!
I need to revisit this style someday!
You did a neat job on the SNES sprites for The Cheetahmen. I loved how detailed it looked.
Such a damn shame that we could have had arguably one of the best NES games ever made. But nooo.. Whoever was responsible had to be so arrogant that he doesn’t give a shit about the quality. If you’re going to have that many games, never ever rush like this (Less than a few months for example) and make sure all your games are fun and works properly.
Here’s my way of handling this. I would combine all 52 games into one great game in one giant world of Action 52. I would make The Cheetahmen the ultimate focus after developing 51 other games. I would split into teams developing one game at a time. It would take 5 to 10 years to put it together.
I would concentrate on making sure Firebreathers are as fun as possible. I would release demos like I’m slowly putting Action 52 together nicely and beautifully. As more and more games develop, I will release updated demos to see if it needs fixing or anything as I want honest feedbacks. After all 51 games are complete, I will not only develop The Cheetahmen, but also add the Game Master were The Cheetahmen and all the other games makes a grand crossover. I would keep fans busy with one separate game at a time until Action 52 is fully ready and glitch-free. If I had grand ideas, I would put it in a journal and or sketchbook and put them somewhere I can find it whenever I’m not going to use it right away.
