Ace of spades скрипт

OpenSpades is a compatible client of Ace of Spades 0.75.

How to Build/Install?

Before you start: In case you’re having issues to build OpenSpades, it may be because this README file is outdated, if so:

On snap enabled systems, the latest pre-built stable release of OpenSpades can be installed with:

Once installed, you’ll be able to launch OpenSpades from inside the desktop menu or from your terminal with the openspades

On flatpak enabled systems, OpenSpades can be installed with:

Building and installing from source

GCC 4.9 / Clang 3.2 or later is recommended because OpenSpades relies on C++11 features heavily.

On Debian-derived distributions:

(because of a bug in some distributions, you might also have to install more packages by sudo apt-get install libjpeg-dev libxinerama-dev libxft-dev )

On other distributions: Install corresponding packages from your repository (or compile from source).

Clone OpenSpades repository:

As an interesting discussion has taken place on another thread about tournaments I thought it best to make this thread about privately hosted servers rather than continuing to hijack that thread.

Here is the response taken from the Q&A in November about privately hosted servers. (Arash is the lead producer)

Will you allow people to host their own servers for 1.0 or do we have rent servers?

We at Jagex will host the servers. This should give you security and maintenance service that means your games will run better.

So with jagex hosting all servers will custom maps, well maintained and administrated server be a thing of the past?
How is a game that’s dependent on user created content be able to succeed if you don’t allow privately hosted servers?

Arash:
We will maintain the servers so you can enjoy playing the game. User Generated content is being looked into, this will be maintained but Jagex.
Privately hosted servers are not the only way to allow the users to generate their own content or have a user generated game succeed.

The community wants to makes its own content not buy it from you in response to

Yes the community might want to create their own content. But don’t you want the tools to be able to do this properly?

The current tool set could be vastly improved, and we will do this. But I hope that you appreciate that we want to do this properly.

Also I would like to pose a question. If we made really amazing content are you saying that there is not a single person that will appreciate it?
I think that if we provide value to the gamer, the gamer will make an honest purchase.

So you, Jagex, would like to host the server by your own, but the players (including me) want to be able to make their own private and open servers. And the thing is that you want that the servers are as secure as possible.

So this is my idea, how to make this thing work for all of us, the players and you. Let the players make their own servers, but make a different server list for them. Don’t put the Jagex official server to the same list as the custom/player made servers. Make it so that the kills and deaths and all that, doesn’t count on the scoreboard, so that hacking or servers with custom mods don’t affect the scores on the Ranked list. On the Player made server list you could make big warning signs and stuff like that.

Hacking on custom servers could be easily avoided with server Admins and Mods that could ban players who cheat/hack or do something that is not allowed.

Only Jagex servers are “vanilla” servers and only those server affect the score!

As for what we would get out of a private server, let me make a list.

Passwords
Control over who enters / stays
Control over rules of the server
Control over map rotation, round time, class limits, ect
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. (seriously, you guys can’t make a server closer to my house than IN my house, just don’t even TRY to argue this)
LAN parties
Servers are as reliable as my computer is.
Ease of use for custom content
Moderation of servers, being able to assign who I deem as trustworthy as a server mod.
Control over the server itself, ability to turn it on / off when I want.
Re-assurance that 20 years from now so long as I have the software, I can still play the damn game when you have all your servers shut off.

Now tell me what the HECK is your reason for being so damn scared about private servers?

What would you like to receive from your hypothetical private server Tentacle?

In addition to the fact that server mods are great for a comunity :
The capacity to set the max number of players freely, the capacity to set the maps rotation, the capacity to add /remove passwords, the capacity to whie/blacklist players. The capacity to start/stop/restart/reset servers on given times (to host a clan match etc. ) The capacity to cron tasks on the server (messages, restarts/resets/auto update maps rotation settings and mods).

Mumble, how does maintaining a server help you enjoy Ace?

The same way maintaining a CoD4 server helps us enjoy a game we keep playing 5 years after its release date.

The same way we enjoy playing minecraft on our dedicated servers.

We love to gather on our own servers, test things out, train together, swarm our foe’s servers and show them who’s the best. It’s all about one thing in the end: comunity. It’s not a console game. If it was we would accept the no dedicated server rulle. It’s not. It’s a PC game with PC nostalgia graphics. Let’s talk about what makes multiplayer PC games great and servers hosted by our comunities are among the top thing that keeps us from abandonning old games.

What trully scares me with your aproach is the fact that you ask these questions. You don’t know about that, you are so completely out of tune with the thriving comunity you had with the original version.

Maybe it’s for the best, maybe you are not the same type of gamers we are, maybe you are no gamers at all.

EDIT: Another aspect of dedicated servers is the ability to host them wherever we want. Our Quake 3 and Counterstrike servers on campus were unrivaled when it came to LAN parties. Our fiber connection taped directly to the national network. Even from home we had lower latencies on our servers than the official servers.

At times we mostly had cracked versions of the games we played, but with time most of us ended up with the original versions. Some of us even have multiple boxes of Quake 3 taking dust because we shared them when playing on official servers. I also bought 4 versions of CoD4 yes 4 after playing the cracked version a few times on LAN. 1 I kept a few years. 1 I gave to my brother, 1 I bought on steam and 1 on the Mac app store. In the end It’s the game I played the most just because I loved the (official) hardcore game mod and I met great players on dedicated servers.

@Slawo, TBH I would be much more scared if we weren’t asking these questions.

And having complete control of the server. How the hell will you do this without letting us host the server? this would be a crap ton of work to make all of that possible otherwise.

And how the hell do you not know what scripts an mods are?

Guys, don’t confuse asking a questions with not knowing what something is. It is important that we are all on the same page and different terms mean different things to different people. Perhaps a better question is what do you want to mod?

What I would want to mod:

remove gravestones
Put in old death cam
shotgun adjustments
class adjustments
game adjustments
game modes
different maps

All of this was said above as well.

And you shouldn’t have to ASK what I want to mod.

For the sake of Illustration, Sniped, look here. THIS IS NOT for advertising, this is to prove a point to you.

Look at how many mods are there. This is a HUGE source of content, and what can keep a game far better than vanilla. But without private servers this sort of content wont happen, at least not without your «seal of approval» and that would take far too long, for far too many mods.

Don’t worry Mumbling, I know all about Minecraft mods, I host my own server which is heavily modded. well sometimes it is. This is why I wanted to have this discussion with you.

The more info I can get from you about what you want to do, the better from our point of view, so please do add to this thread as you think of things.

Can you tell me WHY, you guys are so PHOBIC about private servers? This thread alone has COOOOUUUUNTLESS reasons to have them, yet you refuse to admit it MIGHT be a good idea.

TELL me, why are private servers such a bad idea? Why is this game so different than any other game out there?

What is your problem with private servers? You guys aren’t telling us.

Your «security» idea is bunked, since the option to «take the risk» would leave best of both worlds. So whats the real reason?

(Not that I believe it’s legal or the correct move it’s bound to happen I would much rather have the jagex route and I want you to know that, but even diablo 3 has private servers now because people where pissed that they couldn’t play offline)

Sniped how long do you think it’s going to take before the players just take it into their own hands again and reverse engineer the networking stuff and make their own private servers. Than like what happened when you shut down the classic list you will loose people to that, don’t make the same mistake again let us do it through you or players will do it with out you. We want to work with you but your being completely unreasonable and it will get done on it’s own.

To pull from that steam thread if you want competition make anything ranked limited to jagex owned servers. Please don’t make the community even more scattered by making this mistake again.

For example on some CoD4 servers we have specific stats which are generated by server-side scripts, we can access our own stats, reset them, query other player’s stats etc. This was built using a chat bot and the server.
Some servers specifically require you to ask for permission before an air-strike or to have an UAV running before launching an airstrike, these rulles can be enforced and if not respected the bot will warn you then kick you if you keep going against the rules.

Server-side scripts can for example enforce the reserved clan members room. Refusing connection to non clan members enable dedicated room for clan players.
I don’t like this one but some clan servers would even kick non clan members to make room for members, on request (through the clan’s webpage).

One of the problems for clan servers is the maps rotations. You want to avoid rotating maps constantly, so custom map lists can be enables through a script. Using cron you can even schedule different rotations by relaunching the server with new maps lists at given times. For example some clans had the sniper hour. An hour of sniper oriented maps. Then the sheduled script would reload the normal configuration.

Using a chat bot members can even trigger specific configurations from within the game. Launching desert maps only, or forest maps only.

Mods which change the weapons stats allow for a better balance in some scenarios (i.e. coridor maps vs open maps).
Some players only like the hardcore game mode. Where one bullet even from the weakest weapon will kill if properly aimed, no head-up display is available (no bullet count aim cross or health bar). You aim using the ironsight and play the way it’s meant to be played. At least for me.

There are hudreds of mods and maps, some I hate and never play, but comunities have built around them. There are thousands of scripts which help administrate the game servers.

Humm. As a game dev, I’ve seen non gamers take decisions based on answers they did not understand. The resuls are not necessarly desastrous but never satisfactory.

Maybe you will manage to conciliate both casual and harcore crowds. I wish you good luck and hope you manage it. The concept of Ace of Spades conciliates aspects of 2 diferent genres. From what I had the time to see, the current implementation unfortunately has issues, mainly with the building part which is limited and useless at the rate things get destroyed.
