Known Bugs
This page aims to share information about bugs that are present in the game, which will primarily focus on documenting them in a more easy-to-follow fashion. Bugs represent the errors or faults in a system that cause unintended results..
Please note that this does not double as a bug report page. Reporting bugs should be done in the Sonaria Discord Server’s Bug Reports* channel.
* n.b. this link requires full membership in the Sonaria Discord server. Without being a member, this link will not work.
When reporting bugs to developers, reports should contain:
However, when documenting bugs on this page, there are a number of things to never include:

Colors reverting to default
Updated for new servers only after bug fix on 6/12/2021. In the customization step, players will see their intended result without issue. However, painting a creature certain colors may cause specific or all painted sections to revert to default colors while playing as the creature. Results of the bug may become visible as early as the initial juvenile stage upon spawning in or at the adult stage.
Similarly, for creatures that have season-changing characteristics, such as vegetation on their backs like Lmakosauruodon and Phugu, any attempt to select unintended colors from the vegetation and apply to the creature’s appearance will be reverted to default colors upon spawning as the creature.
Workaround
A temporary solution for color selection is to paint with slightly lighter colors to find a working limit that does not cause the bug to take effect. The brighter the selection, the more likely that a creature may keep their intended appearance. For example, players that would like to paint creatures a pitch black may instead use a dark gray for a similar effect without coming across the bug. There are exceptions, of course, like Pero’s blue, which no matter how light you make it gets ignored in their body.

NPC stands for Non-Player Character, which refers to a character in the game that is not being controlled by a player, but instead by game scripts that dictate a non-player character’s behavior, such as chasing weaker creatures or running away from stronger creatures. However, not every NPC has a behavior, which marks the difference between Dormant and Active NPCs.
NPC Creatures
NPC creatures spawn in select areas around Sonaria. They spawn in as fully grown, default-colored creatures, and their behavior can be determined as either dormant or active. Underwater, there are different types of NPCs that may also spawn occasionally with similar behaviors to NPCs on land.
Dormant NPCs
Dormant NPCs are NPCs that are stuck in the idle position of whatever creature they spawn in as, making them easy prey for carnivores. Some dormant NPCs will attack any player that comes close enough, regardless of diet. Sometimes Active NPCs that get stuck can be confused for dormant ones. NPCs of this type can spawn as any playable creature with the exception of flying creatures and aquatic creatures.
Active NPCs
Active NPCs are the behavioral opposite to dormant NPCs. Active NPCs may chase down or run away from the player depending on if the NPC creature is spawned as a carnivore/herbivore and whether or not the player is ‘stronger’ than the NPC.
Carnivore NPCs will chase down creatures that are weaker than it until they are killed or until the NPC can no longer detect a player. Alternatively, if the player creature is stronger than the NPC, the NPC will run, occasionally attacking if the player comes close enough.
Herbivore NPCs will almost always run from player creatures if they are a carnivore. They may attack.
Aquatic NPCs
Aquatic NPCs only spawn in the water and unlike land NPCs, that spawn on land, aquatic NPCs spawn in select areas around Sonaria’s lakes and oceans. Almost all aquatic NPCs are considered active and thus may run or attack the player depending on what kind of fish they spawn as.
Aquatic NPCs spawn as a fish that resemble a coelacanth, that used to be peaceful but now attacks if you get too close to it, although they will not pursue you if you flee and will not actively try to attack you unless you touch them. Another aggressive NPC resembles a sturgeon, these will actively home in on and attack you if you get within a certain radius, as well as chase you for a certain distance if you try to flee. These two aquatic NPCs are by far the most common, but there is also a rare third NPC that resembles a shark. This NPC is very aggressive and deals much more damage than the sturgeon-like NPC, but the exact details are unknown due to this NPC’s rarity.
Aquatic NPCs are also invisible to non-aquatic/semiaquatic/all-terrain creatures in range until they are killed and respawn.
Event NPCs
The final type of NPCs are the Event NPCs. The only Event NPCs that had an extra function for its event is the Sleirnok. During the 2020 Winter Event, when killed, the Sleirnok would drop one of the ornaments needed to unlock the Winter Gacha. It was very rare during the event and most of the time was an active NPC.
Spawn Locations And Spawn Rates
NPC spawns are all over the map. The most famous, and probably most useful, is the NPC spawn in the desert. There are a ton of caves and ledges near the NPC spawn in the desert. There is a ton of space and plenty of both plants and NPCs. The NPCs that spawn in the desert are usually large or medium-sized creatures. All of them are ‘Statues’ so there is no need to worry about them.
In the center, below the large desert formation was a pond with three aquatic NPCs inside, the most common being the coelacanth, and less commonly the sturgeon. Aquatic NPCs may also spawn North and South of the desert, in the oasis. Any fish NPCs that spawn are replaced immediately when they die, but for some reason, if the area is underpopulated and no semiaquatic/aquatic players are nearby, they despawn until a semiaquatic or aquatic creature gets in the area. Land NPCs are not replaced immediately. Instead, they cycle out every little bit. The old creatures despawn and the new ones spawn. If one is killed, it will not respawn until the set NPC swap time comes. Also, some terrestrial NPCs can spawn outside the typical spawn points (or move there), meaning looking for enough terrestrial NPCs needs you to scout all the map.

PC Controls vs Mobile Controls:
PC Controls can usually be recalled and used faster (with the exception of a number of control overlaps), but have difficulty in precise scenarios such as the Tornado Escape minigame. In Contrast, Mobile is considerably better at precise interactions but has the caveat of being relatively difficult to use.

⚠️ Note: Function Keys
In this guide, you may see mentions of function keys (such as F5 ). Depending on your system, you may need to hold a key labeled Fn while pressing the corresponding function key (usually this only applies to laptops, desktops never really have this). On most laptops, the Fn key is located on the lower left or right side of the keyboard. For many laptops, it usually has a different color for the button itself or text on the button.
To name an example, on a Macbook Air, pressing F5 alone will turn your keyboard brightness down. You need to hold the Fn key in the lower right corner of your keyboard while pressing F5 for the game control to work (or to just use it normally, change the configuration via BIOS / UEFI).
Bindings
F5 (For PC)- switch between first person camera and third-person, and vice-versa. This is currently a prototype feature and will have a proper mobile button in the future. Mobile users can say /fp in chat, however this is obsolete and scheduled for removal after the button is added on screen.
— Free the cursor while using the first person camera.
— Toggle free cursor while using the first person camera.

NOTE: Sit, lay and submissive display are also the way to heal several negative ailments such as poison, necro-poison, bleed, ligament tearing, bone breaking, and burn. They’ll also reduce or outright stop Shro’s lamp effect of stacking poison. Of these methods, sitting is the least effective. Submissive display works due to an artifact in its code (namely, it sets the Laying state to true, so the game believes you are laying down).
